About Mark VanDyke
A morning person by nature, nothing's more exhilarating than greeting a new day along a mountain trail or sandy beach. Witnessing the low light of morning with pack and camera in some of the most beautiful natural places is the root driver for me being a fine art landscape photographer! I work hard to produce honest and authentic imagery of the Appalachian Mountains and southern coastlines; pieces that speak strongly of place and the magic therein. The photographs you see within the adjacent portfolio have been featured in many national and regional publications including Backpacker, Outdoor Photographer, Our State (North Carolina) Magazine, WNC (Western North Carolina) Magazine, Smoky Mountain Living, and Northern Virginia Magazine to name a few.
Whether it’s in the cold waters of a mountain stream, on the rugged crest of an Appalachian mountain, or standing in the rhythmic surf of a southern coastline, out “there” is where I’m at my best. Out there is where I want to be. I do it because I love it. The reward for me is experiencing the many things a landscape photographer goes through to capture the natural world when environmental conditions are at their most dynamic.
